What does time and a half mean?
It means the overtime hour is paid at one and a half times your normal hourly rate. A standard hour pays the base rate, and an overtime hour pays that rate plus half again.
Does this calculator include the taxes taken out of my pay?
No. The totals are before tax and other deductions, so your take-home pay will be lower. A take-home or paycheck calculator can show the rest.
Can I use this for a salaried job?
Usually not directly. Many salaried jobs are exempt from overtime pay. If yours is not exempt, enter the hourly rate that matches your hours, and the result will show what that work would pay.
Where do I find my overtime rate?
Check your offer letter, your employee handbook, or a recent pay stub. The stub often lists the rate next to the overtime hours.
Is overtime pay taxed differently from regular pay?
In most cases no. Overtime pay is treated as wages, so it is added to your gross pay and withheld the same way as regular pay. Your employer calculates the withholding.
What if my hours do not match my schedule exactly?
Use the hours your employer records for the week, from your timesheet or pay stub. The rules for counting overtime vary, so ask your employer if the record looks different from what you worked.
